Total – You can bet on how many runs will be scored in a single game. This isn’t just the total from one team, it’s the total points scored in an MLB matchup.
First Five Innings – In baseball, betting on the first five innings is the baseball equivalent of first half bats. A lot of people who enjoy betting on the first five innings do it because they only have to rely on the starting pitcher rather than relying on a team’s relievers and closers. You can bet on first five innings runlines, totals, etc. basically everything you can bet on for the full game can be wagered on.
Futures/Props – With a futures bet, you can bet on who will win a series, championship, or any other event in the future. Props will allow you to bet on individual components of the game rather than on the game as a whole. You can bet on pitch counts, who will win the Cy Young award, things like that.

ATS means against the spread. This is a record of how many times a team has been able to cover the spread they’ve been given. In Baseball, the spread is represented by something called the runline, but the record of whether or not they cover that line is still called ATS.
In baseball, a runline is a version of the point spread. The Runline is almost always set at 1.5, meaning that the favorite has to win by at least two runs and the dog has to either lose by one run or win the game outright to cover the runline.
If you see SU in a stats book, it means Straight Up. This is the number of games that have been won or lost outright, regardless of point spreads. It’s basically telling you what the team’s record is. It is a good tool to compare to an ATS stat.
Juice is the cut that the sportsbook takes in order to maintain a profit. Juice is also referred to as Vigorish, or vig for short. Juice is usually ten percent of your stake, but some books offer reduced juice, meaning they take less so that you can keep more. Juice is taken at every sportsbook, so you won’t really get around that.
If you see a two teams matched up with BB next to their name, it means that they are playing back to back games. Either on consecutive days or a double header, back to back games will almost always be denoted in sportsbooks, so that you can make your bets accordingly.
Choosing to bet on the first five innings or the whole game depends on who you’re betting on and how confident you feel. Betting on the first five innings is like making a bet on the first half of a game. It is usually done on teams that have a great starter but might have an unreliable closer. It is also done on games that the bettor might only be able to catch the first half of. Moneylines and runlines can be bet on for just the first five innings, instead of the whole game, as can pitching props. Really, it's up to you whether you want to bet on the first five innings or the whole game.
You can have more than one sportsbook. There’s no written rule that says that you can only have one. Furthermore, we think you should have multiple sportsbooks. Having more than one account allows you the greatest selection of games to bet on. It also provides you with the opportunity to choose your odds. Different books use different handicappers, so while they do occasionally have the same betting odds, most of the time, you’ll find different ones. If you’re positive that the Red Sox are going to win a game and they’re +100 at one book and +140 at another, why wouldn’t you choose the one with +140 odds? That’s a much better payout.
